What cause children to have ear infections?
Some causes are allergies, infection, mechanical obstruction, nutritional deficiency, birth trauma, not breast feeding, pacifier use, and iatrogenic or medical causes.
How can chiropractic care help children with ear infections?
Many chiropractors believe that the birthing process may be linked to persistent ear infections. “During the birthing process, cervical (neck) vertebrae can become misaligned, disrupting nerve function, which can affect the Eustachian tube. This may lead to fluid buildup in the middle ear and cause otitis media.” Normal activity and tumbles can also cause the spine to shift and become misaligned.
Children as young as newborn infants can be treated with chiropractic care. Unlike adult chiropractic care, spinal adjustment is done with slight pressure instead of vigorous maneuvering. According to the American Chiropractic Association, “doctors of chiropractic are licensed and trained to diagnose and treat patients of all ages and will use a gentler type of treatment of children.”
So next time your child has an ear infection try a chiropractic visit before you take your child to a pediatrician or family doctor.
